SIRI CARLÉN
Born 1986
“My drawing is about desire. Desire as a vital force. Everything I do is driven by an enormous power of curiosity and inspiration. It starts as observations. I save every moment, exactly everything I see and experience is stored in an inspiration bank. It’s always explosively full. I marvel at the tension between everyday life and imagination. I work intuitively. The distance from idea to action has to be short. I don’t think, I feel my way forwards. I am triggered by different kinds of material. The unique qualities and restraints of the material form the expression. Dry or sticky surfaces, paper that creates its own shapes and contrasts. A tactile processing of impressions. I believe in learning by doing. The hand and intelligence of the body. Language that is absorbed through the skin and the senses, but not easily described. […]
I want to draw all the time. I can only tell stories through images. Describe experiences and places. […]. My stories are not linear. Every image is a whole world. And if I couldn’t get the images out, I would probably explode.” […]
